JV/Varsity Split with Point

Lauren Guth completed a three point play the old fashion way early in the fourth quarter to pull the Lady Devil's JV team ahead for good. The defensive intensity was very high in the second half, many girls finding the discipline to move their feet and keep their hands back. In the first half the Blue Devils found themselves down by double digit figures. Brittany Merriman picked up her scoring, hitting a number of 12 footers. Super hustle by Raychel Shannon, Jackie Ivan, and Emily Silverio on both ends of the court made the difference in the fourth quarter. Meghan Spencer hit two running 8 footers to build the lead to 10 points late in the fourth quarter. Cassie Lord went down in the third quarter with a mild ankle sprain, but came back in the fourth quarter to "own" the boards. It was a very nice win for the girls and they seemed to really "gel" in that second half.

After a rough first two minutes of the game where the Varsity found themselves down 10 to 2, they began to play. After being down 17-6 the Blue Devils went on an 8 - 0 run to find themselves down by 3 midway through the second quarter. Michelle Staiger was "feeling it", and Becky Foster was a spark off the bench. Momentum swung in that first half towards the Blue Devils, and they found themrselves down by eleven at the half. A late run by the Devils to end the third quarter found them down by only eight points, right where they wanted to be. Michelle Grady was very active on the offensive glass, and hit a turn around jumper, and a baseline jumper during the run. Whitney Point's answer in the fourth quarter was "pound the ball inside to Pagano." Pagano dominated the inside game and proved to be too much for us. If she wasn't killing us inside she was killing us from the Free Throw line, a solid 6 for 6 from the line. This game was much closer than the score indicated. Forks is becoming a team that is not an automatic win for teams anymore, opponents have to take them seriously. Be prepared or else.
