Varsity Wins First STAC Game!

This was the Lady Devils first STAC win in over 2 years. Against a JC team that in their last three games took Sus Valley, Whitney Point and Windsor down to the wire. And what felt like the longest game of the season was very close up until the diamond and one defense in the third quarter busted the game open. A decisive 16 to 9 third quarter run put the Lady Devils on top for good. But, not getting back on defense and not moving their feet caused the girls to be in early foul trouble. JC relentlessly pushed the ball up the floor in the first half for some easy baskets. The talk at halftime must have been simple-play DEFENSE. JC's high scorer Colleen Clarke was "dogged" all night by Becky Foster and Michelle Grady. Clarke will be re-evaluating her game after last night. The boards were controlled by Gee, Grady, and Matt. Amanda, and Michelle were both very active on the offensive glass, giving us some second and third chances. Tori's rebounds and outlets helped to spring some fast breaks in the second half for the Devils. Kaitlin Phelps seemed to be at the right place at the right time on several occassions, and as always was very solid from the Free Throw line. Bruet and Staiger did a much better job of handling the ball and looking for the fast break but settling down when it was not there. Early on in the fourth quarter Michelle, and Allie's pressure defense triggered a couple easy layups for the team that helped to put us up by more than 14 points. The bench work of Sheehan, Pasquale, and O'Day gave us some valuable productive minutes. Colleen's first basket on her Birthday was from the Foul Line, moments later she drilled a two. With this win, and the ME second half in which we outscored the Spartans 33-27 the team has strung together six pretty good quarters. Maybe it is Pizza Hut before every game coach. Congratulations Coach Bogart! You will always remember Friday 13th, 2006 as your first STAC win.

It was an honor for all of us to be present at ME this week when Coach Bogart was awarded the "game ball" for her accomplishments as a Spartan. Allie Bruet was quoted at practice the next day, "Coach, we didn't know you were THAT good."
